Full Spectrum Extracts

When we last connected, terpenes was the focal point of the blog, and now we’re going to shift our focus to the relationship shared by terpenes and cannabinoids, and what truly creates a Full Spectrum Extract.

Full Spectrum Extracts ˈfu̇l ˈspek-trəm ik-ˈstrakt | Noun Definition: A cannabis concentrate produced that preserves the full cannabinoid and terpene contents of the raw cannabis plant. The goal of a full-spectrum extract is to maintain the complex range of desirable compounds in a cannabis plant without altering them through decarboxylation or oxidation. Credit/Source: Weedmaps

“The term 'full spectrum' on its own is widely used and very misunderstood, especially with regard to how it’s being applied to consumer products. Therefore, we feel it’s pertinent to define what we believe 'full spectrum' is, and show you how it applies to our technology, and ultimately, our products. We believe this educational insight is important for our customers so they can differentiate between PurBlend products... and everything else," said PurBlend Science, Chief Technical Officer, Mark Vuozzo.

What does Full-Spectrum Mean?

In its raw form, each cannabis cultivar has its own unique cannabinoid and terpene profile that, among other compounds, contributes to their therapeutic effects. These compounds are created within the plant’s lipid and fat-based trichomes, and by the way, the hemp-plant can produce more than 400 compounds.

Aside from the well-known cannabinoids (THC, CBD, THCA, etc.), cannabis plants produce a wide range of compounds that may potentially have therapeutic uses. These therapeutic compounds include aromatic terpenes, flavonoids, proteins, phenols, and esters. PurBlend full-spectrum extract is a type of cannabis concentrate that has captured the therapeutic compounds [cannabinoids and terpene profiles] of the raw hemp plant during processing, minus the lipids and fats that previously held those compounds together, compounds that now hold zero medicinal value.

The key to extraction success is founded on the method of separation and preservation of the medicinal goodies; this is where the PBX-STANDARD shines, and is evident in the natural flavors tasted through the ingestion of tinctures produced to the PBX-STANDARD.

Sounds simple, think again!

The challenge comes down to how you obtain the medicinal compounds in the first place. We know that any modifications to the full-spectrum extracts after extraction, they start losing compounds, decomposition is in full swing. So, the process must be delicate and thoughtful. Very focused.

The PBX-STANDARD.

In the spirit of our blog --> THE LOW LOW, the PBX-STANDARD (our botanical extraction process) employs a low temperature low pressure process.

Our Extraction Temperature hangs out in the range of 25 to 40 degrees centigrade (77F to 104F). Did you know that the hemp plant thrives in this temperature range.

Our Extraction Pressure is..... loooooooooowwww. It's a low pressure process. Why is that good? Simple. It's gentle.

The hemp plant's glands targeted during extraction are very fragile, as are the compounds we are seeking to capture. In order to maximize our output, a low pressure process is employed, and this differs greatly from industry norms where high-pressure, high-temperature derived whole plant extracts dominate naive tastebuds. So... PBX is the only way to go. Taste the difference yourself.

The PurBlend Difference.

At Purblend, we've done our homework with regard to how terpenes modulate cannabinoids in the provision of desired therapeutic, end-user outcomes. Many competitor products are being made or engineered in the laboratory from isolates or monoterpenes or fractions. At PurBlend, we like to rely upon nature to formulate for us. We believe that the true art is in the cultivation of the flowers; we're really good at that too. We may add a little terpene here and there to provide a dominating prescriptive action from botanical sources, however, we always start with the entire full spectrum of the plant as our basis for formulation. This is why we produce the very best.

Stay tuned for more from the Low Low.
