Full Spectrum Extracts

When we last connected, terpenes was the focal point of the blog, and now we’re going to shift our focus to the relationship shared by terpenes and cannabinoids, and what truly creates a Full Spectrum Extract.

Full Spectrum Extracts — Definition: A cannabis concentrate produced that preserves the full cannabinoid and terpene contents of the raw cannabis plant. The goal of a full-spectrum extract is to maintain the complex range of desirable compounds in a cannabis plant without altering them through decarboxylation or oxidation.

“The term ‘full spectrum’ on its own is widely used and very misunderstood, especially with regard to how it’s being applied to consumer products. Therefore, we feel it’s pertinent to define what we believe ‘full spectrum’ is, and show you how it applies to our technology, and ultimately, our products. We believe this educational insight is important for our customers so they can differentiate between PurBlend products… and everything else,” said PurBlend Science, Chief Technical Officer, Mark Vuozzo.

What does Full-Spectrum Mean?

In its raw form, each cannabis cultivar has its own unique cannabinoid and terpene profile that, among other compounds, contributes to their therapeutic effects. These compounds are created within the plant’s lipid and fat-based trichomes, and by the way, the hemp-plant can produce more than 400 compounds.

Aside from the well-known cannabinoids, cannabis plants produce a wide range of compounds that may potentially have therapeutic uses. These therapeutic compounds include aromatic terpenes, flavonoids, proteins, phenols, and esters. PurBlend full-spectrum extract is a type of cannabis concentrate that has captured the therapeutic compounds of the raw hemp plant during processing, minus the lipids and fats that previously held those compounds together.

The PBX-STANDARD

The PBX-STANDARD employs a low temperature low pressure process. Our Extraction Temperature hangs out in the range of 25 to 40 degrees centigrade (77F to 104F). The hemp plant thrives in this temperature range. Our Extraction Pressure is low — a gentle process by design. The hemp plant’s glands targeted during extraction are very fragile, as are the
