This formula pairs CBD and CBG with ginger, rosemary, eucalyptus, and black pepper.

Ginger — a 2016 human trial found 5% ginger oil massage reduced osteoarthritis pain 70% versus 32% for placebo. Its compounds inhibit the COX-2 and 5-LOX enzymes — the same targets as Boswellia in Arti-Rub XL — and interact with TRPV1, the same receptor family CBD engages.

Rosemary — a real human trial found topical rosemary essence significantly reduced musculoskeletal pain, working through its main compound, 1,8-cineole, which inhibits prostaglandin, leukotriene, and cytokine formation.

Eucalyptus — two separate human trials (total knee replacement recovery, rheumatoid arthritis) found eucalyptus inhalation significantly reduced pain, working in part through inhibition of specific inflammatory cytokines including IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α.

Black pepper does double duty here. Its compound piperine is well documented to enhance absorption of other actives by inhibiting the enzymes that normally break them down — a classic human study found piperine increased curcumin’s bioavailability by 2,000%. This is why we call this formula “deep”: black pepper is included to help the other ingredients penetrate further, not just to add its own separate effect. Separately, black pepper is naturally rich in beta-caryophyllene (30% of its essential oil — even more concentrated than in cannabis), which works with CBD via the CB2 receptor, the same mechanism used in Arti-Rub XL and Sport Rub XL.

CBD and CBG were chosen together deliberately. Research shows CBD and CBG can engage the same receptor family from different angles — CBD through an allosteric binding site that reshapes receptor structure, CBG through mechanisms including the TRPA1 receptor — supporting a more complete anti-inflammatory response than either cannabinoid delivers alone.
