Beta-caryophyllene works alongside CBD, not just next to it. Laboratory research on human skin cells found that CBD and beta-caryophyllene reduce inflammation through two separate, distinct pathways — CBD via the PPARγ receptor, beta-caryophyllene via the CB2 receptor — producing a stronger combined effect than either compound alone.

Menthol works through a specific, named receptor: TRPM8, also known as the cold and menthol receptor. Beyond the cooling sensation, menthol has been shown in real human clinical trials to meaningfully reduce musculoskeletal and nerve-related pain, and to increase blood flow at the site of application.

Cinnamon bark’s active compound, cinnamaldehyde, engages the TRPA1 receptor — the same receptor pathway CBG interacts with in this formula. Research shows this pathway can support circulation and reduce inflammatory markers. Cinnamaldehyde is also a recognized skin-sensitizing compound at higher concentrations, which is why we formulate it at or below 1% — within published safe-use limits, rather than the higher concentrations some products use for a stronger scent or sensation.

Spearmint complements the formula with its own separate anti-inflammatory activity, via carvone and limonene, confirmed in human skin cell studies — and is generally considered gentler than menthol alone for topical use.

CBD and CBG were chosen together deliberately. Research shows CBD and CBG can engage the same receptor family from different angles — CBD through an allosteric binding site that reshapes receptor structure, CBG through mechanisms including the TRPA1 receptor — supporting a more complete anti-inflammatory response than either cannabinoid delivers alone.
